Welcome to the Woods!

Intent: At Lostwithiel Primary School, we are committed to enhancing the academic and personal development of our pupils through the implementation of Forest School. Our weekly outdoor sessions are aligned with our 5Ps—Participation, Perseverance, Pride, Partnership, and Passion—with a core emphasis on wellness. By prioritising wellness and promoting engagement with nature, Forest School will contribute significantly to the holistic development of our students.

Implementation: Forest School will be implemented as a weekly outdoor session for each class, designed to foster skills such as teamwork, communication, and environmental stewardship. These sessions will incorporate mindfulness practices to promote mental clarity and resilience among students. Through activities centered on the 5Ps and oracy-focused discussions, pupils will engage actively in meaningful conversations and develop essential communication skills. The curriculum will also integrate environmental education, empowering students to become informed advocates for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Impact: Research supports that nature-based activities enhance mental and physical well-being, reducing stress and improving mood. By promoting cognitive function and physical activity, Forest School will contribute to better academic performance and overall health among our students. Moreover, the emphasis on oracy will nurture a sense of community and mutual respect, preparing students to communicate effectively and participate actively in society.

In conclusion, integrating Forest School into our curriculum aligns with our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that prepares students to thrive academically, emotionally, and physically. By fostering a supportive environment and promoting lifelong skills, Lostwithiel Primary School aims to empower students to navigate life's challenges while becoming responsible stewards of the natural world.
